Why Choose TN Valley Blades?
While many people attempt to sharpen their own knives, achieving a true razor edge requires precision equipment, proper abrasives, and a disciplined process developed over time.
Some other services are available locally and by mail in nationally but I can’t find anyone that offers the method or spending the time like I am. They use a wheel grinder or belt sharpeners. You don’t get the precision, benefits, and long lasting results like you do with a by hand with stones and strops sharpening.
At Tennessee Valley Blades, I provide professional, repeatable results with meticulous attention to detail — backed by the promise that your knife will be returned performing exactly as it should.
Every blade is treated like part of my personal collection.
Step 1 — Intake & Inspection
Every knife begins with a thorough evaluation to ensure safe, precise service.
Intake processing and detailed photos of your knife
Item tagged and logged into workflow
Full function check of lockup, centering, and action
Inspection for wear, damage, or parts that may need replacement
Optional ultrasonic cleaning (30 minutes) using a knife-safe solution
Careful drying and internal wipe-down
This step ensures your knife is mechanically sound before sharpening begins.
Step 2 — Precision Sharpening
Sharpening is performed using a guided precision system with carefully controlled, consistent passes at each stage.
Depending on blade condition, the progression typically includes:
220 diamond plate (only for repairs, chips, or major reprofiling)
325 diamond (if needed)
600 diamond — establishes the primary edge
1000 diamond — refines the apex
3000 whetstone — begins polish
6000 whetstone — fine edge refinement
Step 3 — Advanced Stropping, depending on package
To fully remove the burr and maximize edge performance, I finish with premium Jende diamond emulsions:
0.5 micron
0.25 micron
0.1 micron
0.025 micron
This progression produces a clean, burr-free mirror edge that slices effortlessly and holds its performance longer between sharpenings.
Step 4 — Final Finishing & Protection
After sharpening is complete, your knife receives detailed finishing work:
Final wipe-down with Walrus Oil
Body and clip screws inspected, removed if needed
Medium-strength Loctite applied and hardware re-secured
Optional metal polish and buff (bare steel only)
Secondary wipe-down and drying
Optional ceramic coating with UV cure (if selected)
Precision lubrication using correct-weight KPL oil
Full final function check
Step 5 — Documentation & Return
Before your knife ships back:
After photos and microscopic edge images are taken
Images emailed to you for review
Knife carefully packaged for safe return
My Promise to You
This is not an electric pull-through sharpening service. This isn’t a quick wheel grinder with “close enough” angles.
Every knife is sharpened slowly and deliberately using precision equipment and a repeatable process. My goal is simple:
Return your knife sharper, cleaner, and better than it arrived.
If you are not satisfied with the edge, I will make it right.

I’m Zach — and I personally sharpen every blade that comes through the shop.
This is not a volume belt-grind operation. Every knife is individually inspected, serviced, and tested by hand to ensure consistent, high-quality results.
I have over 25 years of hands-on experience sharpening my own equipment and helping friends, coworkers, and fellow outdoorsmen maintain their gear. I started TN Valley Blades after recognizing a lack of truly detail-oriented, reliable sharpening services both locally in East Tennessee and online.
My background shapes the standard I bring to every blade:
U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan
Emergency/trauma and flight nurse (RN/NREMT)
Eagle Scout, with a lifelong respect for properly maintained tools
In military, emergency medicine, and wilderness environments, equipment failure is not acceptable — and that same mindset drives this business today.
You may find services that rely heavily on quick certifications or mass-processing methods. My focus is different: meticulous, disciplined, detail-driven workmanship on every knife I service.
